Sripada Samadhi

In the year 2002 in the Goshala of ISKCON Bhubaneshwar, Srila Sripada mentioned: “Samadhi is a place where the (departed) person is living. There should be enough space for him to move around.”

During Annual GBC meetings in Sri Mayapur in 2004, Srila Sripada was walking with his disciples near Srila Prabhupada Samadhi area. There was construction of Samadhi mandirs for departed sannyasi disciples of Srila Prabhupada. The size of these Samadhi mandirs were restricted by GBC. Srila Sripada questioned, “how any person can move inside a small place?”.

Srila Sripada felt that several samadhis near Srila Prabhupada’s Samadhi does not enhance the beauty of the place. The following conversation ensued between Srila Sripada and Akincana Das:

Srila Sripada: “do not bring me here (after my departure). I don’t want to minimize the beauty of Srila Prabhupada Samadhi”

Akincana Das: “If you don’t want to come here, where do you want to go?

Srila Sripada: “Radhakund is very nice”.

By following Srila Sripada’s instruction, the disciples placed Srila Sripada’s physical body in Samadhi in the backyard of Sri Gopalji Mandir in Radhakund. Also appreciating the mood of Srila Sripada, the disciple did not make Pushpa Samadhi of Srila Sripada near Srila Prabhupada Samadhi area in Sri Mayapur.
